Vasil Levski is the pseudonym of Vasil Ivanov Kunchev, Bulgarian revolutionist, ideologist and organizer of the Bulgarian revolution. He is a Bulgarian national hero.
Vasil Kunchev first came up with the idea that in order for Bulgaria to be freed from Ottoman rule the people must be organized into committees. To accomplish this idea he created 2 organizations Inner revolutionary organization and Bulgarian revolutionary central committee. Although he died before the Bulgarian revolution was realized, he is considered to be the father of the revolutionary movement in Bulgaria, and his ideas and actions made the liberation possible.
The hero died on the gallows and the body was left guarded for example to the Bulgarian citizens by the Ottoman rule. His body was later rescued by an unknown man and buried in an unknown place.
Vasil Levski will forever stay in Bulgarian history as the father of liberation.
